"We concentrate on rugby-based, physical and motor-skill development, focusing on the safety aspects of the game"

 Rugga Kids

We concentrate on rugby-based, physical and motor-skill development, focusing on the safety aspects of the game. The Rugga Kids programme caters for learners aged 3 - 8 years at both pre and primary school levels. The Rugga Kids curriculum forms the basis for rugby techniques and skills development. What makes the programme special is the context in which these skills are taught, being fun, positive, energetic and enjoyable to children. Rugga Kids sessions are both structured and fun ensuring that the learner develops social and team skills in a stimulating environment.

Rugga Kids Objective

  • We strive to develop motor skills and safety techniques, which form the base for all future rugby players.
  • Our primary goal is the holistic development of the learner within the rugby milieu.
  • We encourage the learner to develop a passion for the safety and human dignity of all participants

Programme Outline

  • The programme involves one session per week
  • Sessions consist of ball-oriented and non-ball oriented fun games
  • One 35 minute session (per week) is given by a trained facilitator at the school
  • Groups consist of a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 learners per class

Mini Tournaments

In 2005 Rugga Kids launched regional "Mini Tournaments" which all enrolled are invited to attend. These fun days are held on a Saturday morning, once a term - for each region.

The intention of holding these "Fun Days" is mainly to provide our kids an opportunity to participate in mini games as well as to showcase to "proud parents" what they have learnt and the skills gained as a "Rugga Kid".

It also gives the kids a chance to meet and interact with other Rugga Kids their age from the various schools within their region. These Mini Tournaments have proved to be a great success. There has been a tremendously positive response to these events, all round - from parents, kids and schools!
